【New Model】Overgeneity

【New Model】Overgeneity

The long-awaited evolution.
Retaining its softness while refining its core, Overgeneity has finally arrived.

Following the release of its prototype in April 2025 as a bi-metal model built specifically for technical play, Overgeneity — the signature model of mowl Ambassador Kenta Kushiro — drew strong interest and many inquiries from players.

Now, after a full year of refinement, the final production version is complete.

Overgeneity will be released on Saturday, May 2.

About the Production Version of Overgeneity>

Overgeneity was developed as a derivative of Heterogeneity, the signature model of mowl Ambassador Kenta Kushiro.

The original Heterogeneity has continued to earn strong support even four years after its release, standing out as a one-of-a-kind narrow-profile Yo-Yo that combines strong spin power with a uniquely lingering feel.

Carrying that lineage forward, Overgeneity was developed as a bi-metal model built specifically for technical play — designed to respond to Kenta Kushiro’s current style at an even higher level.

From Prototype to Production

- Material Changes-

The biggest change in the production version of Overgeneity lies in its body and rim material composition.

One element Kenta has consistently sought throughout the Heterogeneity series from the very beginning is a soft play feel — and that remained essential in the development of Overgeneity as well.

For that reason, the Overgeneity prototype released in April 2025 featured an A6061 body paired with titanium rims, chosen to preserve that softer character. For the production version, however, we also set out to improve stability and practicality on stage while retaining that same softness in feel.

As a result, the material construction was significantly revised, moving to an A7075 body and stainless steel rims. This new combination delivers clearer response to hand movement and quicker overall reaction, while also pairing more naturally with Kenta’s play style.

-Optimizing Body Weight Distribution-

In the production version of Overgeneity, we spent considerable time refining the finer details with one goal in mind: to give the Yo-Yo a more defined core feel and greater stability without sacrificing its signature softness.

In most cases, when stainless steel rims are used, the conventional approach is to load more weight toward the outer edge to maximize spin power. Overgeneity takes a different path. By carefully optimizing the balance between the aluminum body and the placement and distribution of the stainless steel rims, it achieves a high level of control with quick, precise handling.

Compared to the prototype, the width has also been increased by 2 mm. This allows it to make better use of its strong rotational power while delivering a more forgiving and manageable feel in play.

In the Lineage of Heterogeneity

In its production form, Overgeneity carries forward the lingering feel, power, and distinctive presence of Heterogeneity, while adding quicker handling and a more clearly defined response in play.

In terms of shape, the catch zone features a slightly distinctive inverse profile, giving the model a clear connection to the Heterogeneity lineage. That inverse shape also helps preserve rotational speed off the throw, contributing to the kind of lingering spin that defines the Heterogeneity series.

The production version of Overgeneity reaches an exceptionally refined balance — combining strong rotational power and lingering spin with the agility to respond quickly to even the smallest movements.

<Comment from Kenta>

Overgeneity, the high-end model of the HG series, is finally complete.

I know the wait from last year’s prototype to the official release has been a long one, but that extra time allowed us to refine it properly and bring it to a point where I can stand behind it without compromise. I’m genuinely happy to finally release it.

To everyone who tried the prototype offline, thank you for your honest feedback. It was a huge help throughout the development process.

This model combines the kind of heavyweight power that stays stable even when pushed hard with a level of control that still feels intuitive in play. It may sound contradictory — heavy, yet highly maneuverable — but once you try it, the balance makes sense immediately.

Its width is 47 mm, but because the effective trapeze width has been pushed to the limit, I think it will feel even easier to land on than the numbers suggest.

While it belongs to the HG series, this is not simply a continuation of the same shape. It’s a model I rebuilt by re-examining what I need in my play right now. The spin power and control still clearly carry forward the lineage of its parent model, Heterogeneity.

I’ve also heard great feedback from the Ambassadors. The lingering spin and strong rotational power make it highly capable not only for technical tricks, but for horizontal play as well.

I hope you’ll experience for yourself the balance of power and agility that defines Overgeneity.

<About Artwrok>

From the very beginning, the artwork of the Heterogeneity series has consistently featured motifs of angels, demons, and clouds — each used to express the distinct character of the model it represents.

For Overgeneity, the main motif is a mature, fully grown angel. Unlike previous entries in the Heterogeneity series — where angels and demons coexisted — the demon is intentionally absent.

The uncertainty and inner conflict once held within the series have now reached a point of arrival, expressed through the disappearance of the demon and the evolution of the figure into an angel.

With its wings spread wide, the angel symbolizes a presence that inherits the lineage of the series while moving beyond it.

The story built through Heterogeneity, the coexistence of opposing elements, and the individuality born from that tension — Overgeneity’s artwork carries all of this forward and brings it to completion as a new form of evolution.

-Kenta Kushiro Profile-

Born in Hokkaido, raised in Tokyo.

Kenta began playing Yo-Yo in 2011, inspired by the third generation of Hyper Yo-Yo.

From 2013 onward, he was influenced by videos of overseas players such as Charles Haycock and Petr Kavka on YouTube, which led him to start creating original tricks of his own.

In 2016, he competed at the World Yo-Yo Contest in Cleveland, USA, where he advanced to the 1A Division semifinals.

In fall 2018, he joined mowl.
