In recent years, wider Yo-Yos have become one of the defining trends in modern design. Their ability to catch the string more easily — and bring added confidence to dynamic tricks — is a clear advantage for many players.

At the same time, increased width often comes at the expense of maneuverability, making fine control and overall handling more demanding in ways that are hard to ignore.

Tentacle challenges that conventional tradeoff of the ultra-wide category, combining the forgiveness to handle bold, dynamic tricks with the composed feel needed to keep intricate combos clean and controlled — all within a single design.

Design

The Gap Between Appearance and Feel

Tentacle’s defining feature is its overwhelming 60 mm width, paired with a noticeably smaller diameter than its width might suggest.

In most cases, a model with this much width would also use a larger diameter to secure rotational stability and power. Tentacle takes the opposite approach, built around a reversed set of proportions.

That smaller-diameter design gives it a level of control rarely associated with an ultra-wide Yo-Yo, allowing it to respond naturally even to more intricate tricks. It has a strong visual presence, but in play, that impression gives way to something far more refined.

It carries the confidence of width without ever becoming crude. That gap is where Tentacle reveals its real character.

A Weight Balance That Combines Presence and Stability

To avoid the sluggish feel and loss of ease that can come from reversing the usual width-to-diameter proportions, Tentacle uses a relatively light weight of 66 g for an ultra-wide Yo-Yo. With stainless steel rims distributing the weight, it suppresses the floatiness often associated with ultra-wide models while balancing rotational power with a strong, substantial feel.

Maximizing Effective Trapeze Width

Another defining feature of Tentacle is the way it maximizes the advantages of an ultra-wide design: it was engineered so the effective trapeze width comes as close as possible to the full body width, making string catches feel exceptionally natural.

Refinements and Fine Adjustments>

Further refinements were also made in the details, including adjustments to the pad protrusion for improved sleep and return, as well as a revised separator shape.

About the Play Feel

Despite its massive appearance, Tentacle delivers a remarkably natural and comfortable feel in play. With its 60 mm width, it offers outstanding performance for demanding hop-based and horizontal tricks.

Its diameter, kept in the 52 mm range, also reduces kickback on the throw, making for a smoother, cleaner release.

In addition, careful attention has been paid throughout the rim and body to reduce discomfort on catches. From practicing high-difficulty tricks to moments when execution matters most, Tentacle is built to be a Yo-Yo you can rely on.

This time, we’re also featuring review comments from mowl Ambassador Hayato Itani, who used Tentacle to take 3rd place on stage at Kanto Regional Contest 1 (EJ26-1).

“That overwhelming 60 mm width made a huge difference in my consistency on dynamic tricks. Especially on the final trick, I really felt that the width gave me the confidence to commit to it and land it cleanly, even under the pressure of competition.

I used to think wide Yo-Yos would make tighter, more technical tricks harder to control, but Tentacle’s smaller 53 mm diameter completely changed that impression. Even in intricate combos, string interference never felt like an issue, and it stayed incredibly smooth and controllable — to the point where it was hard to believe it was 60 mm wide.

I personally prefer lighter Yo-Yos, but a lot of the recent ultra-wide models tend to be heavier to suppress the floaty feel that often comes with that format, which made me avoid them. Tentacle, though, comes in at 66 g without feeling overly heavy, while still keeping that floatiness firmly under control. It has just the right amount of presence, and that balance gave me a real sense of confidence on stage.”
