<Development Background>

Left: Triarc / Right: Narcissist
The development of the Triarch actually began back in 2020 as a derivative of the Surveillance, originally designed as a signature model for Daiki Tanaka.
By 2021, mowl®︎ had completed its first-ever tri-material prototype. However, an unexpected problem occurred—something no one had anticipated.
The initial design called for an A7075 body, stainless steel rims, and POM wings. But when the prototype arrived from the factory, it turned out to be made with completely different materials: an A6061 body, stainless steel rims, and PC (polycarbonate) wings.
Due to this mix-up, it was impossible to properly evaluate the tri-material structure, which was not yet mainstream at the time. As mentioned in the recent blog post about the release of the Narcissist, Daiki himself took this moment to reflect on his identity as a “creative performer,” leading to a pause in development of the model.
Fast forward to 2024.
As mowl®︎ began developing new products, the idea of a tri-material construction resurfaced. What had once been a novel idea in 2020 had become more common by 2024, prompting the team to intentionally explore an unconventional material combination not yet seen in the market.
They decided to revisit the mistaken configuration from 2021—A6061 body, stainless steel rims, and PC wings—and turn it into an advantage. By reworking the design and rebalancing the weight distribution, a new opportunity for a high-performance, next-generation tri-material yo-yo emerged. Thus, the 2nd prototype (production model) was born.
As shown in the diagram above,
Triarch can be seen as a sibling model—originating as a prototype of a tri-material derivative of the Surveillance—but having taken a development path distinct from the Narcissist.
While Narcissist was designed specifically to match the play feel preferred by its signature player, Daiki Tanaka,
Triarch is a completely different model in both performance and construction—engineered as a versatile, competition-focused yo-yo.
<About the Shape and Performance of "Triarch">
- Shape -
Originally developed as a derivative of the Surveillance model, the initial shape of Triarch was identical to that of Surveillance.
However, when we decided to revisit the design from scratch, we moved away from the distinct H-profile of the Surveillance and opted for a less aggressive H-profile.
We also redesigned the outline to widen the overall width of the yo-yo.
- Structure -
The fitting method of the PC parts and rim follows the structure of the 1st prototype.
To enhance controllability and overall feel, we placed the weight ring on the inside, clearly shifting the weight distribution toward a midship weight design.
This change has improved spin stability and achieved a more responsive handling.
- Performance -
While the Triarch carries strong competition-oriented characteristics, its use of A6061 aluminum for the body gives it a surprisingly light and soft feel for a performance model.
It delivers excellent stability and is ideal for those who find monometal yo-yos too heavy.
The greatest strength of the Triarch lies in its exceptional balance, which defies expectations for a competition model.
It’s a highly versatile yo-yo that suits various play styles and has already received praise from many players who tested it.
