<Development Background>
In 2009, Turning Point founder Kentaro Kimura won the World Title in the 3A division.
He and Hank Freeman, who competed against each other in the same division during their competitive careers, have built a deep relationship of trust over the years—so much so that they even shared a room while Kimura was living in Prague.
This project was born as a natural extension of the friendship between these two world champions.
Going further back, the relationship between mowl founder Eiji Okuyama and Kentaro Kimura also dates back to the early 2000s.
At the time, both were active as sponsored players for YoYoFactory.
During the 2023 World Yo-Yo Contest held in Osaka, they co-hosted the welcome party,
where they had the opportunity to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their shared roots—YoYoFactory—together.
Although this is our first official collaboration as brands,
it is built upon a long-standing foundation of friendship and mutual respect that has developed over many years.
<About the Performance of "Velveton DL">
This model is based on a project originally developed by Turning Point’s Kentaro Kimura for Hank Freeman.
It features a 6061 aluminum body paired with titanium rims, offering a unique play feel that reduces the “pulled outward” sensation often found in bimetal yo-yos with stainless steel rims.
The result is a yo-yo that balances substantial weight with the unified, smooth, and soft handling of a monometal.
The outer edge features a proprietary Turning Point design,
delivering exceptionally stable spin and comfortable sleep performance—on par with the best bimetal models—despite being optimized for 3A.
Its slightly slimmer width not only suits 3A play, but also provides excellent compatibility with complex 1A technical tricks.
Combining Turning Point’s renowned machining precision with mowl’s signature graphic expression,
this luxurious yo-yo brings together the best of both brands in a single, exceptional creation.
<Origin of the Model Name and Artwork>
The model name "Velveton DL" is a coined term that combines "Velvet", representing a soft, velvety feel, and "-ton", which conveys a sense of weight and depth.
It captures the essence of the yo-yo — supple to the touch yet substantial at its core, embodying both elegance and power.
The "DL" stands for "Driftline", referencing Hank Freeman’s signature model from which this one draws its lineage.
The artwork builds upon the main logo from Hank’s signature model, "Driftline,"
with an added outer ring inspired by the orbit of a yo-yo in motion.
This special design highlights the model’s identity as part of Hank’s exclusive signature series,
delivering a truly distinctive and meaningful visual.
