- Inheriting the Essence of Heterogeneity-
A Refined Fusion of Classic and Modern Design
"Heteron"

The latest addition to Kenta Kushiro’s HG Signature Series,
Heteron brings the smooth string feel, persistent spin, and technical support
of Heterogeneity into a brand-new POM model.
The Heritage Edition carries the iconic visual identity of the HG series into Heteron’s new material construction, creating a model that bridges the lineage of the past with its next evolution.

Width: 44.4 mm
Weight: 67.6 ± 0.5 grams
The Heritage Edition carries the iconic design of the HG series into Heteron’s new material construction, creating a model that connects the lineage of the past with the next step in its evolution.
<Development Background>
It has already been nearly four years since the release of the 7075-aluminum Heterogeneity in January 2022.
As we began exploring how to update the signature model to fit the current era,
mowl founder Okuyama proposed developing a new model using POM.
Kenta had also been considering a POM-based evolution of Heterogeneity,
and thus, the development of Heteron began.
The POM body is precision-machined,
and the iconic domed face of Heterogeneity is faithfully recreated through an aluminum hub—
preserving the signature face element of the original design.
Heteron inherits the exceptional smoothness on the string that defined Heterogeneity,
while its slightly increased diameter and the thicker POM rims create
a powerful torque on the initial throw, unique to this material.
Despite its strong initial power, the production model delivers
a surprisingly quick, intuitive, and responsive feel—
a balance that becomes instantly addictive.

<Notes from the mowl Design Team >
-Design Philosophy-
The core silhouette—its distinct edges and rim profile—remains largely unchanged from Heterogeneity.
Our primary focus was reworking the face design
and ensuring that the shift from 7075 aluminum to POM still retained sufficient power.
Kenta also requested a rounder, softer face profile,
which became an important element in balancing design and performance.
Rather than leaning into the modern POM aesthetic,
we intentionally drew inspiration from late-2000s to early-2010s
retro-style POM (Delrin) yoyos,
emphasized by the thick, angular rims.
-Performance Philosophy -
To preserve the sense of power found in the 7075 model,
the diameter and width were increased slightly,
and the rims were made thicker and more substantial.
There are several approaches to boosting power and spin,
but given the retro-inspired direction,
this rim configuration felt optimal.
Smooth directional transitions and excellent string glide
were key traits of Heterogeneity,
so we carefully balanced the new design to maintain that feel.
With the increased diameter and wider body,
the gap-side rim angle was modified to push weight slightly further outward
while also making it easier for the string to slide cleanly into the gap.
We hope you’ll feel the unmistakable lineage of Heterogeneity the moment you throw it.
<Comments from Kenta>
When Eiji first approached me with the idea,
I already had the concept of creating a POM-based model in mind.
However, simply remaking Heterogeneity in POM felt incomplete—
I wanted something with an added layer of expression.
While observing Heterogeneity one day,
the idea struck me:
“What if the domed face was recreated in aluminum?”
That revelation became the catalyst for Heteron’s development.

Left: Heteron | Right: Heterogeneity
The goal of this project was to recreate—through POM—
• the powerful torque on the initial throw
• the satisfying smooth string glide
• and the firm-yet-gentle overall feel
that define Heterogeneity.
After organizing the requirements with the design team,
the first prototype was completed.
The 1st prototype delivered great handling,
but the torque on the initial throw felt slightly weaker than expected.
We aimed higher—leading to the 2nd prototype.
For the 2nd prototype,
the diameter was increased and the shape was subtly revised.

Left: 1st Prototype | Right: 2nd Prototype
The first prototype was already around 80% complete,
so we refined the stability and torque without altering the core identity.
After several weeks of testing,
the design reached its final form.
The finished model highlights
the airy, soft handling unique to POM,
reinforced by the strength and stability provided by the aluminum dome—
achieving the ideal balance of smoothness and torque.
Heteron inherits the essence of Hheterogeneity,
yet expresses something entirely new through the blend of POM and aluminum.
As with all POM yoyos, you’ll notice the feel becoming softer and warmer with extended use.
We hope you’ll experience its unique character in person
at mowl Osaka or through the mowl Online Store.

Kenta began yoyoing in 2011 during the third Hyper Yo-Yo boom.
Around 2013, inspired by players such as Charles Haycock and Petr Kavka,
he began crafting his own original, creative tricks.
In 2016, he competed in the World Yo-Yo Contest in Cleveland,
reaching the 1A Semi-Finals.
He joined mowl in autumn 2018 and appeared in the promotion video for Nocturnal.
In January 2022, his signature model Heterogeneity was released.
<About Artwork>

The Regular Logo for Heteron inherits the HG series art direction,
depicting a half-angel, half-devil motif.
This visual concept ties back to the core theme of
“Heterogeneity — the coexistence of contrasting elements.”
POM × aluminum.
Softness × strength.
Stillness × movement.
Heteron embodies the beauty of opposites existing in harmony.
