Details

The moment you throw it, your assumptions fall away.

The right design awakens

competitive performance that was there all along.

- Latence -

Diameter : 54.1 mm

Width : 50 mm

Weight : 64.6 ± 0.5 g

Light. Yet powerful.

Compact. Yet built to spin.

Latence was developed in pursuit of new possibilities for competitive yo-yo design.

By adopting a D-size bearing,

a smaller diameter, greater width, and lower overall weight

were brought together at a high level within a single competition model.

Why a D-Size Bearing?

The history of the D-size bearing stretches back decades,

and it was commonly used in Europe during the 1990s.

However, D-size bearings never became the standard in competitive yo-yo design.

Instead, the C-size bearing, first adopted in 2001,

went on to become the dominant standard in competition.

The reason lay in

the distinctive characteristics associated with D-size bearings.

When a D-size yo-yo is designed

using the same principles as a conventional C-size model,

it can produce excessive kickback, a heavier sense of control,

and increased friction during play.

At a time when response-system technology was far less developed than it is today,

many D-size yo-yos offered strong fundamental performance

but suffered from problems around the response system,

and gradually disappeared from the mainstream.

That led the mowl design team to a different conclusion:

“The problem was never the D-size bearing.

The right design simply did not exist.”

With this philosophy as our starting point,

we set out to eliminate the undesirable characteristics associated with D-size bearings

and reconsidered the design from the ground up

in order to explore an entirely new possibility for the format.

The name Latence

combines Latent — something hidden or not yet expressed —

with Emergence — the act of appearing or coming into existence.

It is a coined word intended to represent performance that had always existed beneath the surface,

but was only able to emerge through the right design.

The name reflects the development story behind Latence:

revealing the hidden potential of the D-size bearing through engineering.

A D-size bearing

requires a design created specifically for a D-size bearing.

Yet very few competition models

have ever been developed to seriously explore that potential.

Latence is our answer to what that potential can become.

A Feel That Numbers Cannot Explain

When you play with it without thinking,

you may forget that it even uses a D-size bearing.

It avoids the heaviness and distinctive quirks often associated with D-size designs,

while maintaining an accessible, familiar balance of diameter and width.

At the same time, it delivers a presence that is difficult to imagine from a bi-metal model in this lightweight class.

It is a play feel that specifications alone cannot fully communicate.

Experience something genuinely different for yourself.

The smallest details of the design were also reconsidered from the ground up.

Instead of the conventional M4 axle, Latence uses an M3.5 × 12 mm axle.

The rim joint also incorporates knowledge gained during the development of Overgeneity,

allowing us to increase the overall width while maintaining high structural strength.

Release Color

Latence Schematic Eidion / Blasted Silver (Polished Silver Rim)

The first production run of Latence is released as the Schematic Edition, translating as much of its highly confidential engineering drawings as possible into the graphic design.

The industrial combination of Blasted Silver and polished silver rims gives physical form to the concept of an engineering schematic. Stripped of unnecessary decoration, the restrained color palette emphasizes the beauty of an industrial product while bringing the design philosophy behind Latence into even sharper focus.
