A new competition model joins mowl's flagship M Series.

Designed with the performance required for serious competition, this is “M Wide.”

The second production run will be available beginning Saturday, August 8.

＜Development Story＞

At mowl Osaka, our physical store opened in 2024,

mowl producer Okuyama had the opportunity to watch young players improve day after day.

Seeing these players begin to take on freestyle competition,

he approached the design team with a simple request:

to create a relatively accessible competition model

for the next generation of players preparing to step onto the competitive stage.

With 7075 aluminum — a material widely favored by competitive players — established as the foundation,

we developed four prototypes in pursuit of a competition model

capable of delivering performance beyond its price point.

-1st / 2nd Prototype-

The first prototype we created (left in the photo)

had a relatively large overall body.

For the second prototype (right),

we applied what we had learned through the development of M Light to refine the weight distribution,

designing a smaller-diameter, wide-profile model that could be moved quickly and easily.

This gave us the maneuverability we were looking for,

but spin performance and overall weight still left room for improvement as a true competition model.

-3rd Prototype-

For the third prototype, we adjusted the weight distribution,

increased the actual weight, and redesigned the catch zone.

At this stage, the performance had already reached a level where production was seriously considered.

However, after spending more time testing the model,

the added weight began to reveal itself as a drawback in actual play.

That led us to begin development of a fourth prototype.

-4th Prototype-

For the fourth prototype — the final production version —

our goal was to eliminate the sensation of heaviness without reducing the actual weight.

To achieve this, we applied knowledge gained through the development of M Ti and completely reworked the weight distribution.

As a result, M Wide retains part of the familiar feel of the original M,

while introducing a character closer to that of M Ti.

The shape of the catch zone remained unchanged from the third prototype.

Instead, we completely redesigned the internal weight distribution.

The result is an exceptionally well-balanced model that carries substantial mass without feeling heavy in play.

＜Play Feel＞

M Wide brings together the elements we consider essential for modern competition.

Its substantial rim profile reduces the heavy sensation often felt at the moment of the throw,

creating a play feel surprisingly close to that of a bi-metal yo-yo.

At the same time, its intentionally substantial overall weight provides greater stability during demanding tricks on stage,

making M Wide particularly well suited to horizontal play and hops.
